Advice: Meaning Behind Outliving Retirement & Meeting My Mother To Understand

Photo Credit: https://www.southernliving.com/culture/retirement-quotes Hello Everyone! Guess what folks!!??!! We are heading towards another end of a work week!! Hooray for another upcoming weekend!! We have had another week that has been extremely warm and humid here in New York City. I'm sure by now you are not surprised to hear that. :) How's life on your side of the globe today, my friend? Hopefully, you have another amazing weekend planned out with your beloved friends and/or family?? Thanks for stopping by so I can reveal even more Quora topics with you. But first, allow me to share my first children's book that's entitled, "Not All Girls Play With Dolls" that is available in e-book, paperback, and hardcover on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes. Additionally, I'm also sharing my first adult book entitled, "Construction Tales: Volume I: A Woman's Journey To Become An Electrician". Now, it's time to reveal another two-dose advice blog post, courtesy of Quora, for your reading pleasure. This first piece of advice is on the meaning behind the phrase, "you might outlive your retirement income". I'm not under the impression that the average person, no matter where you are in the globe, even remotely considers retirement. The average person is just surviving, for their entire life, to get through the "now" nevermind the "future" that may never come. If it wasn't for joining the union as a 20-year old kid, I probably would not have thought about retirement at a young age otherwise. As a young widow/single mother, I barely had enough cash to get from week to week. Therefore, none of what I have to say is intended to dig into anyone since I totally get it. I opted to take a stab at the question since it's thought provoking. The second round of advice is on the meaning behind the phrase, “if you met my mother you would understand”. There are a few powerful meanings behind that phrase. Without totally giving away the store, go dive right into these two Quora discussions by reading both the questions and my responses that follow it down below: POSED QUESTION #1: "What does this mean, 'you might outlive your retirement income'?" -By Monk Am MY RESPONSE #1: "People here in the U.S. have different approaches to retirement. Some solely rely on Social Security. Meanwhile, others rely upon a company retirement plan. Some people buy real estate and hope to rely on either the proceeds of the sale or income from rental rental property. There are some people who really plan on their retirement. The average age of retirement here in the United States is around 62-years old. The average life expectancy here in the United States is 78.79 years. If you have at least saved up $50k per year for retirement, you ideally should have saved $800,000 for retirement. This means if you live to age 90-years old, you may not have enough savings to preserve your way of life if you didn’t save up enough of your retirement funds. The average person collects $1,536.94 from Social Security after working for roughly 40-years here in the United States for their retirement. With the average cost of living, that amount would be just enough to cover the rent and no other expenses. This makes it incredibly difficult to save money or manage emergency expenses. The worst thought to me would be to become homeless and live on the streets in a tent. The sad thing is that the average American wings their entire retirement and does absolutely no planning. May you figure out how to live life in the most cost-effective manner possible and live a long life. #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls" -By Leslie M. Jasper https://www.quora.com/What-does-this-mean-you-might-outlive-your-retirement-income/answer/Leslie-Jasper-3?prompt_topic_bio=1 POSED QUESTION #2: "What does someone mean by “if you met my mother you would understand”?" -By Barbara Young Capalbo MY RESPONSE #2: "We learn and earn each of our behaviors from our parents as well as other family members. The first 5-years of life form a person’s personality. Siblings have their own dynamics that contribute to a person’s behavioral patterns as well. Being able to witness the parent-child dynamics does help tremendously with understanding how a person behaves in a particular manner. A person’s relationship with their parents is very telling. A parent may have their own behavior that can only be properly explained by spending time watching them. You may wonder why your partner has a big spending habit. It makes sense since they learned how to spend money from either parent. Once you learn a behavior, it’s hard to break that pattern of behavior without a tremendous amount of consciously thinking about changing the behavior. Once you get to an older age, it’s rather hard to learn new tricks. It’s nearly impossible if the person is not willing to change their habits. May you have good luck and much success along your life path! #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls" -By Leslie M. This is short story #11 entitled, "Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools". This short story covers my life as a widowed, single mother in the era when I juggled both motherhood and my career as a journeywoman electrician. I share the various challenges I faced and lessons learned along the way. The previous short story is entitled: #10: "Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice". I decided to write about some life lessons such as guarding your personal information, managing nasty rumors, combating sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism. Overall, the construction culture has improved dramatically over the past 25-years. Developing both a thick skin and a sharp tongue are key tools needed to survive various jobsite antics. I hope you learn something from this short story. There are more to come. These short stories are now also available as Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes.
