Advice: Interpreting The Meaning Of (2) More Common Phrases

Photo Credit: https://realenglishconversations.com/financial-idioms-in-american-english/ Hello Everyone! Hey now!! It is hump day again!! Are you thinking about your weekend plans already? I may chill out compared to last weekend. We have summer temperatures here in New York City. How is life on your side of the globe? I'm going to share yet again with you my first children's book "Not All Girls Play With Dolls" that is available in e-book, paperback, and hardcover on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes. The same reminder goes for my first adult book entitled, "Construction Tales: Volume I: A Woman's Journey To Become An Electrician". Your fav New York City construction pal is here yet again sharing more Quora advice for your senses to soak in. This first piece of advice is on the topic of the meaning behind the phrase, "whatever helps you sleep at night”. For the second round of advice, the topic is on the meaning behind another phrase that says, ""just because someone desires you, does not mean that they value you". Without chewing off your ear with these topics eternally, go ahead and read the question and advice down below. Go ahead and share your thoughts on my chosen topics by leaving your feedback in the comment section down below. Check out the question(s) and my response(s) down below: POSED QUESTION #1: "What does it mean when someone says “whatever helps you sleep at night”?" -By Blake Winfield MY RESPONSE #1: "It is a sarcastic phrase that’s used to let a person know that they are well aware of their impending word salad. When I say the phrase “word salad”, I’m implying that I’m aware that a line of bull$hit is coming my way very shortly. People often tell stories, with some truths stretched way out, to justify their words and/or behavior. This justification on words and/or behavior helps them to be able to sleep well at night. In order to sleep well at night, you need to have a clear mind. A clear mind that is not cluttered with lies or worries can rest well at night. Life can be rather rough if you don’t sleep well and are up all night worrying about things you can’t control. There are many factors in life that can make situations beyond a person’s control. Ideally, you shouldn’t lose sleep on situations that are totally beyond your control. You don’t need to lie about them either. Then again, some people craft stories in order to make it appear that they are in control of an otherwise lawless scenario. The person who chooses to use a word salad to justify their bad behavior runs the risk of losing their credibility all together through “spinning the yarn” and telling tall tales to make themselves feel better about bad situations. Once you lose credibility, you can also lose respect from your peers as well. I personally give much respect to a person who doesn’t try to sugar coat an ugly situation and even owns their mistakes. Just remember that you are not fooling anyone long term by covering up things that people can ultimately find out at a later date. If you don’t provide full disclosure and it is discovered later on, that person will never look at you with respect. You will instead get the eternal side eye. May you carefully consider all of your options and have much luck on your life path. May you also have a restful sleep each and every night. #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls" -By Leslie M. Jasper https://www.quora.com/What-does-it-mean-when-someone-says-whatever-helps-you-sleep-at-night/answer/Leslie-Jasper-3 POSED QUESTION #2: "What does this mean, "just because someone desires you, does not mean that they value you"?" -By Soha MY RESPONSE #2: "What is value anyway? If you hold a high value, the man will recognize your unique qualities and work to keep you in their life. A high value woman will have her act together while having many feminine and nurturing qualities that are very appealing to a man. These great qualities could make the woman a potential future wife and mother. This value is recognized because it is not within every single woman that a man meets. According to an online dictionary source, there are a few meanings. Value is the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something. A person's principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life. Value is also to consider (someone or something) to be important or beneficial; have a high opinion of. Value can also be an estimate of the monetary worth of (something). Therefore, value can mean a different thing to each individual. It’s fair to say that many women don’t understand about the many men that walk the Earth who choose to think like this phrase. Then again, rarely does a guy come at a woman with his true intentions for her. However, there are clues that he doesn’t value you highly. True intentions tend to be masked by a guy’s word salad. This word salad is a medley of what he perceives she will buy in exchange for access to her body. If the only thing he wants to do is take you to McDonald’s and have sex with you, he doesn’t value you sis. If you only hang out with him during small blocks of time (never on the weekends) and you never meet anyone within his social circle, you are just holding a place in his life for sex. (*DISCLAIMER* Yes, not all men think like this.) If you are cool with it, by all means enjoy your life. I happen to work with all guys, for over 26-years now, so I’ve developed a general understanding on the meaning behind that phrase. I’ve heard so many whore stories during lunch and coffee break over the years. I would feel sorry for the young girl who is not valued at all by this guy who’s bragging to his co-workers about his latest conquest. Because of these many work experiences, I can spot this kind of guy who doesn’t value women at all a mile away. Usually he seeps of some form of trauma and has a rather slanted view on women. It comes out in random conversations. Sadly, many women are under an impression that when a man desires her sexually, he also values her for something more than just sex. Some women also assume that when a man wants to have sex, he also wants to lock her down in an exclusive relationship. This comes from the impression after hearing the man’s word salad. Obviously, the guy is saying what he thinks that she wants to hear just so that he can just get in her pants. For him, hopefully the same lines work just as well each time they are said. I believe that there are various metrics that a man uses in order to value a woman. These metrics hinge on the man’s culture and life experiences. If he perceives her as being a good girl with great qualities, that he would consider in a wife, he will highly value her. If he perceives her as a whore that’s for the streets, he won’t value her highly at all. He will still want to have sex with her. A woman with low standards of herself will attract men who also have low standards. People only get away with what you allow to happen. If you allow a person to continue to not value you, whose fault is that? You must ask yourself why does this man not value you? Is the damage already done? Once a person perceives you to be of low value, it’s hard to improve that mindset. You are better off cutting your losses and moving on to a relationship that is a clean slate. As much as it is fun to speak about fun past experiences, sometimes it is better to hold back on your crazy drinking stories. The translation in his mind is that you’re a whore and not to be taken seriously. It is possible that this guy will never value any woman ever. That problem doesn’t belong to you. The only thing you need to do is require men to treat you right. If they don’t, then don’t be afraid to walk away. You can’t force or coerce a person to value you either. I believe that a woman should be a man’s peace within the midst of a chaotic world. The women who are not in control of their own emotions are considered to be “crazy” and not of high value. I wish you much luck on your life path as being seen as valuable! #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls" -By Leslie M. I share the various challenges I faced and lessons learned along the way. The previous short story is entitled: #10: "Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice". I decided to write about some life lessons such as guarding your personal information, managing nasty rumors, combating sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism. Overall, the construction culture has improved dramatically over the past 25-years. Developing both a thick skin and a sharp tongue are key tools needed to survive various jobsite antics. I hope you learn something from this short story. There are more to come. These short stories are now also available as Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes.
