Hello Everyone! For most of us, we have made it to the end of another productive work week. On my project, I get to celebrate Juneteenth with my upcoming three-day weekend. This is the second year of observing this relatively brand-new holiday. As I had previously shared in prior posts, I recently found out that Anchor.fm is no longer electronically converting this written blog to an audio MP3 form automatically. I can only assume that now they have perfected their act, they now want to charge for this service. I honestly don't know the back story on why this feature dropped off the Earth suddenly. Therefore, I still have to figure out an alternate way to accomplish restoring this audio blog goal- in a cost effective manner. Additionally, I've noticed that the blog's many podcast platforms, that was previously available, was removed for some reason. Therefore, I'm trying to add my podcast again onto those same platforms again. I've also learned that messing with my RSS Feed links is the host and changes impact the availability on different platforms. At one point, I had the podcast on over +20 podcast platforms. I guess I will back track and see where I've been dropped off and put myself back on again. Moving forward, I will share my Construction Tales Safety Topic YouTube videos on my main Spotify channel. Therefore, my brand-new Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes are my YouTube safety topics. Before I share my latest "Construction Tales Safety Topic" content, allow me to share some updates on my other projects. Now that I've wrapped up my "Leslie's book and podcast ad", let's check out the written version of the latest Construction Tales Safety Topic that is known as video #14, Part B on my MP3 and MP4 formats: In the last video, I explained what type of electric hoist and concrete bucket that was involved in a recent jobsite accident. Prior to even starting the electric hoist, competent crew members must go through a series of daily safety checks that come from a company checklist. In this video, let us explore the series of safety steps that this general contractor takes prior to starting up the electric hoist that’s used to raise and lower the concrete bucket: 1. Utilize double-line setup. 2. Hoist capacity with double line setup = 2000 lbs. 3. Ensure hoist bays are clean and clear of debris. 4. Position two (2) competent hoist operators on platform at the top of supported scaffold. 5. Ensure hoist operators know the locations of all emergency stop push buttons or power disconnects. 6. Observe all safety precautions. 7. Disconnect power supply before attempting any repair or maintenance. 8. Take up slack in wire rope slowly. 9. PuII the wire rope slack off of the drum when in a down direction. 10. Never place hands within any area of the wire rope or pulleys while the wire rope is in motion. 11. Inspect the system daily to ensure bolts and anchoring devices are secure and tight. 12. Communicate between crews using radios while hoisting and unloading concrete. 13. Ensure workers on walkway platforms are tied off securely. 14. Connect mud tub using double rope kit and spreader bar. 15. Connect concrete bucket using double rope kit. 16. Use calibrated scale to measure the weight of mud tub/concrete bucket as required. 17. Ensure connections to spreader bar and concrete bucket are secure and tight. 18. Ensure no people are directly below or within 20 feet of hoist while operating. 19. Do not exceed maximum lifting capacities stated on the hoist model and serial number label/plate Well, my friend, this wraps up what I have for now on introducing you the daily pre-operation checklist by competent crew members. As I stated before in the previous video, the objective is to learn from what happened and try to avoid it in the future. We are grateful that the young men involved in this accident were not seriously harmed.
