Advice: Discussing Fictosexual & "A Chip On Your Shoulder" Phrase
Hello Everyone!
We've reached yet another hump day here on the streets of New York City. How is life on your side of the globe today my friend?? I honestly had an amazing 3-day holiday weekend. I observed the relatively new holiday Juneteenth this past Monday. I went to Atlantic City and won a lil bit of money at the casino. It was great to also spend quality time with a new important man in my life. Upon this discovery, I have won way more than what can be offered in a casino. Before I flash you with my reading material, I'm sharing with you my first children's book that's entitled, "Not All Girls Play With Dolls" that is available in e-book, paperback, and hardcover on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes. The same reminder goes for my first adult book entitled, "Construction Tales: Volume I: A Woman's Journey To Become An Electrician". Now, I'm delivering yet another double dose of Quora advice for your reading pleasure. This first piece of advice is my thoughts on the term "fictosexual". The second round of advice is on the meaning behind the phrase, "a chip on your shoulder”. This phrase originated in the United States during the early 19th century. I'm actually blown away that this was an actual practice many decades ago. I totally imagine some angry kid on the playground with his sleeves rolled up, brows furrowed, and looking for a challenger. I'm glad I tend to dispel my anger since I don't want to linger in it. I understand the frustration for those who choose/can't let it go. Now is it a choice to not let anger go? I tend to think it is a choice. It takes alot of time and patience to let the anger go and heal. Feel free to share your position on the chosen topics. Let's review these discussions by checking out the question(s) and my response(s) down below:
POSED QUESTION #1:
"What does it mean to be fictosexuals?" -By Marcelo Philippe
MY RESPONSE #1:
"A fictosexual is a person who has no interest in romantically pursuing a real-life human. Instead, they are exclusively attracted to and aroused by imaginary creations. Many people even going as far as marrying their made-up mates. I’ve seen this type of behavior on television on a show entitled, “My Strange Addiction”. On the surface, it sounds like it couldn’t possibly be even remotely true. What normal person would unapologetically do this while having others see that behavior? In the midst of social media, these platforms attract people from all walks of life. These people are not ashamed of doing what suits them. These different types of people must have all endured different types of life experiences. These life experiences could have been traumatic in nature. It would make sense for a traumatized person to avoid relationships with people. It would be totally logical for a person to carry on a relationship with an inanimate object. After all, there would be a zero percent chance of getting emotionally or physically harmed by an inanimate object. Your anime doll will not harm or leave you for someone else. You are not subjected to domestic violence from a stuffed animal. The relationship would be totally safe and sound. I’ve seen people marry their cars, imaginary people, and even stuffed animals. They are protecting themselves from the pitfalls of even further emotional trauma by not having a relationship with a human at all. I have compassion for people who go against the grain of society and do what works for them to protect their mind and heart. May you have much luck on your life path while experiencing the least amount of trauma as possible. #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls" -By Leslie M. Jasper

POSED QUESTION #2:
"What is the meaning and origin of the phrase “a chip on your shoulder”?" -By Rose Anne Campbell
MY RESPONSE #2:
"My knee-jerk interpretation of this idiom is that a person is rather edgy in nature and rather quick to snap at any moment. Let’s look up the definition in an online dictionary. According to the village elders, to have “a chip on your shoulder” means a deeply ingrained grievance or feeling of resentment, often deriving from a sense of inferiority and marked by aggressive behavior. The saying originated during the 19th century in the United States, where people wanting a physical fight would carry a chip of wood on their shoulder, daring others to knock it off. I’ve totally learned something new today. I never knew that boys used to place an actual chip on their shoulder as a challenge for others to knock it off. I’m blown away that the phrase is based upon real behavior! I cannot imagine doing that in order to invite random confrontation. I don’t have enough built up angst, even in my darkest days, on my life path to facilitate a need for this drama. I’m thankful that I don’t carry that vibe on my soul. I let bad things go since I want constant peace within my energy field. I also desire to have and maintain peace within my inner circle. You cannot have peace if you carry the burden of anger. This requires solitude and some time to heal your emotional wounds. May you have great luck and find solace along your life path! #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls" -By Leslie M. Jasper

I recently shared my latest short story that has been loaded up to my Construction Tales-Told By A Woman Kindle Vella Library on Amazon. This is short story #11 entitled, "Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools". This short story covers my life as a widowed, single mother in the era when I juggled both motherhood and my career as a journeywoman electrician. I share the various challenges I faced and lessons learned along the way. The previous short story is entitled: #10: "Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice". I decided to write about some life lessons such as guarding your personal information, managing nasty rumors, combating sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism. Overall, the construction culture has improved dramatically over the past 25-years. Developing both a thick skin and a sharp tongue are key tools needed to survive various jobsite antics. I hope you learn something from this short story. There are more to come. These short stories are now also available as Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes.
