Advice On The Meaning Behind The Acronym "POS"

Photo Credit: www.snopes.com Hello Everyone! How are you dedicating your Tuesday afternoon!? Try to keep dry and warm since the weather has been rough lately. Guess who found another question on Quora for us to chew the fat on?? Yeah, I laughed at this question. I figured the person asking is not an American and has never ever been involved in road rage ever. Here in New York City, the acronym "POS" on a regular basis under their breathe at any given moment. It may be funniest question so far that has been requested. This question is on the topic on the meaning behind the acronym "POS". For anyone that is under a rock, the term POS stands for, Piece Of Sh@t. It is usually a phrase that is unleashed when another person just pisses you off!! There is usually raging emotion behind that veiled phrase. One may ask why use it as an acronym? Perhaps it was designed so that you can shout it out loud in front of women and children? The term sh@t comes from the Germanic term "schite" that means "dung". In terms of slang, I kind of think that phrase is probably one of the worst things that you can say to another person. You indeed have a super low opinion of the person being called a POS. It may be a phrase, once uttered, that you cannot come back from if you don't genuinely mean it. I don't recommend using POS on another person unless you are totally done with their presence and closing the door on future interactions. Just be sure to stand behind what you say or prepare to apologize profusely. If the phrase is not actually merited, it will make you look even worse than the person you chose to utter the phrase on. Therefore, buyer beware so to speak. At the end of the day, may you align yourself with good people in your life. Now, here is the posed question and my response below: POSED QUESTION: "What does it mean when someone calls you a POS?" -By Blake Winfield MY RESPONSE: "The POS is an acronym used to convey the following phrase: Piece Of Sh@t. What does it mean when you call another person a POS? 1) You are frustrated with the words and actions of another person. 2) You have pent up emotions on another person to where you cannot verbally articulate how you feel. 3) The other person is not behaving and/or speaking in a manner that reflects what they want you to believe that they are. 4) The POS hurt you beyond words. 5) The goal of the person calling another a POS just wants to rattle their cage emotionally. 6) The person calling the other person a POS believes they are of a higher character and entitled to speak up and let them know in few words. 7) It can be a personality conflict where both sides do not mesh well together. On the other side of the coin, if you allow the negative feedback to give you an emotional response, you may interpret the feedback as just another person that is trying to upset you with their stinging words. If you push the emotional response to the side, you have to ask why that acronym was the feedback of choice? Either the person offering the feedback has a limited vocabulary or the person is just fed up with the actions and words and this acronym summarizes the boiling point of sheer frustration. The person being called a POS must take a moment, if they even care, to analyze why they are being called that? Are they guilty of not being who they say they are? Are your words and actions being misinterpreted? Is the person giving feedback too damn sensitive? Should you try better to treat other better? At the end of the day, it is up to both parties as to whether or not they choose to react to the feedback or not. May you have better relationships than the example offered." -By Leslie M.
