Advice On Reviving A Dry Conversation

Photo Credit: www.weheartit.com Hello Everyone! Are you enduring this frigid Tuesday evening to the best of your ability!? I scheduled a few dozen Tik Tok videos that I took on the day that I traveled to Manhattan for my first ever Broadway show on Saturday. As mentioned before, the play was hosted at the New Amsterdam Theatre that is located on Broadway & 42nd Street in Manhattan. The theatre looks very old and laden with history; opened in 1903. According to the website, the theatre closed down as a result of the Great Depression and sat vacant for 50 years. During the Mayor Guiliani era, 42nd Street, in Time Square in particular, started getting a makeover. I remember how seedy Manhattan was in the mid-90's and how it has transformed in the years since. Disney did a 99-year lease back in 1993 in an effort to restore the building to it's original glory. The building is a national landmark now. It took a team of 400 different trades, including engineers and plasterers, to restore the decaying building. I found the structure to be absolutely elegant and vintage in nature. I took some videos of the old theatre memorabilia, main lobby and bar, subway encounters, a unique display on Broadway, people watching at Rockefeller Center, and other spots on the way to a store over on 5th Avenue. The videos have been scheduled to release a few at a time daily up until February 5th. While I'm at it, I might as well shamelessly promote my book entitled, "Construction Tales: Volume I: A Woman's Journey To Be An Electrician". It is available on Audible in audio as well as paperback and e-book for: Amazon, iTunes, and Barnes & Noble. Here is another question on Quora for us to check out. I'm trying to figure out if the author of the question is serious or not. What do you think? Communication is a two-way street. If someone always initiates the conversation, it would be my job to keep the conversation rolling further. I'm sure there is a point when it is time to pack it in and cut off communication since you are beating a dead horse already. It is frustrating to deal with people who want you to do all of the work in either a mere conversation or tasks in every day life. The question is phrased to where I interpreted that the author wants the other party to entertain them at all times. What's the actual point of mentioning a dry conversation? Are they just complaining or do actually they want it fixed? Technically, a dry conversation is reflective on all parties in the chat. Unless the person is totally incapable of properly communicating, I would feel partially responsible for not properly contributing and going in the direction of a dry conversation. Depending on the subject, the dry person may be holding back on what they really want to say. The person may not know the censored way to deliver what they feel. In that process, they just get stuck and tongue tied on their words. This person requires some coaxing, via asking probing questions, in order to get them on the detoured path of what they are trying to convey. Is it possible that the author is truly unaware that they must also contribute to a dry chat? Perhaps they believe that the responsibility for keeping the chat alive lies within the originator? Yes, I cannot assume anything in life. Sorry, my bad. I also cannot assume that a person knows how to properly add to a conversation. If people did know how to speak properly, there may not be as many broken homes and relationships out in the world. We would all have the right words to say and there would be no need for war or divorce court lawyers. I'd like to think that I'm a decent communicator. I'm also accepting if that thought is wrong. Let me know what you think on this subject matter? How do you deal with a person who wants to bog your personal time down with a dialogue yet it gets boring? Do you end the chat or spark a fire in the conversation? What is your super power to stimulate the dreary conversation? I tend to listen to what the person is saying, pick it apart, or ask a boat load of follow up questions. I actually like learning from people and writing so it is not difficult for me to keep a chat going. I'm aware that this is not easy for everyone. I tend to poke the bear of topic and poke with many inquiries such as: who? what? where? when? how? Not everyone likes to answer directly. You have to keep re-phrasing the questions in order to make progress with the conversation. My eldest son and I chat for a minimum of an hour any time we get on the phone. We share a similar trade to discuss. Meanwhile, my youngest son is of few words at times. Other times, he is a walking set of Google search pages on various information. I mostly have to poke the bear on the teen in order to stimulate the conversation. If not, he finds an excuse to end the discussion. Teens will be teens. Check out the posed question and my response below. POSED QUESTION: "How do I deal with a dry texter who always starts a conversation first but they're dry?" -By Twice MY RESPONSE: "Since the person starts the conversation, at least they are trying. Perhaps it is your role to follow the chat with asking questions. These questions will prod the other person to go in the direction of responding to your questions with answers. It could be possible that they want to chat with you but their nerves get the best of them. They start out okay but maybe lose focus as a result of being nervous. How exactly do you jump start a dry chat? Follow each topic with: who? how? what? where? when? I wish you luck with having a much more fruitful future conversation." -By Leslie M. This is short story #10 entitled, "Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice". This short story covers some initial life lessons such as guarding your personal information, managing nasty rumors, combating sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism. Overall, the construction culture has improved dramatically over the past 25-years. Developing both a thick skin and a sharp tongue are key tools needed to survive various jobsite antics. The previous short story is entitled: #9: "I'm Working On The Railroad With The Tools As A Chick!". I decided to write about some stories from when I worked with the tools on the railroad. I shared a story of saving a co-worker from a near death experience! I hope you learn something from this short story. There are more to come. This short story is now also available as (2) Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes. Construction Tales- Told By A Woman: (10) Kindle Vella Short Stories On Amazon!!
