Advice On Approaching The Subject Of Body Odor

Hello Everyone! Hopefully you are having a good Halloween weekend with your friends and/or family? I met up with family that came in from out of town this evening. I'm tired and not interested in hanging out for a costume party. I want to go to Manhattan tomorrow night for the Village Halloween Parade. It is always a fun and wild time as a people watcher. I found a requested question on Quora that sought my advice. This question is on the topic of body odor. Do you have the courage to let another person know that their body odor is not up to par? If you do, how do you approach them? Do you do it privately or in front of an audience? Would you think that a person who mentions your body odor doesn't like you? I would think someone is doing me a favor. However, I could understand feeling awkward about it since it is very personal. Here is the question and my response below. POSED QUESTION: "If someone says you smell, would they still like you?" -Robert Jin MY RESPONSE: "In my opinion, a simple observation on body odor is just a fair warning that the other person is picking up on some body odor that is noticeable. If I had a bad smell, for whatever the reason, I would want my friends and/or family to tell me. I pride myself on my hygiene. We all go through things in life that cause our hygiene to slip. Super high temperatures, working hard, hormones' changes, pregnancy, weight gain, depression, drugs, etc. are all reasons for not smelling the most fresh. For whatever reason behind the root, I would want to take care of it. It takes courage to inform another person that they have unpleasant body odor. I would appreciate someone approaching me to correct a problem. Yes, the ego doesn’t like to be told that there is a problem. Perhaps it is an article of clothing that has trapped odor that can’t be removed via washing it. To me, it doesn’t indicate that the observer doesn’t like you. If anything, I believe they are looking out for you if they approach you one on one. If the reveal happens in the company of other friends and/or family, then it is geared to be hurtful and/or shameful. One may ask yourself why are they using an audience to get your attention? Anyone who does it in front of others is intending to get a laugh at your expense. However, it is can be possible that they perceive that you are ignoring your hygiene and a group intervention is required. Shaming is not okay. If the heads up was done with an audience, I would confront the person back and ask them why they chose to have an audience? I would totally make the person uncomfortable for being a jerk. Hopefully, the concern raised is helpful and not hurtful. I wish you much luck on encounters as such." -Leslie M. Jasper https://www.quora.com/If-someone-says-you-smell-would-they-still-like-you/answer/Leslie-Jasper-3?prompt_topic_bio=1 Let me know your hypothetical approach to a person who informs you of body odor in the comment section below. I'm needing some rest right now so I am going to hit the hay. Before I sign off, I am pimping out my latest, two podcasts that I released for The Verbally Disastrous Podcast via links for Spotify, Amazon Music, & YouTube below. The Dirty Little Secrets Club Review

Photo Credit: www.TheDirtyLittleSecretsClub.com *FAIR WARNING* THIS BLOG POST DISCUSSES A PODCAST THAT CONTAINS MATURE SCENARIOS AND ADULT HUMOR!!! PROCEED WITH CAUTION!! Hello Everyone! I sure as hell hope you are having a great day today on your side of the globe!? Keep that energy high in order to keep that mindset positive. How much colder is it on your side of the globe today? I'm giving a big finger to people who never see winter ever!! Just kidding!!! I'm totally kidding!! I have always liked the month of October and this Halloween themed month. Truth be told, I am a polar bear so I embrace the cooler weather when the summer is over. I want to go to the NYC Halloween Parade in lower Manhattan on Sunday. As a reminder again, I have some journals, sketchbooks, planners, etc. that are now on Amazon. For this blog post, I am sharing my review on a podcast that someone on Twitter shared with me over the summer. It is entitled, "The Dirty Little Secrets Club" and is hosted by Dayna (That Trophy Wife Life Podcast) and Brimstone (The Grindhouse Radio). I found this unique duet on YouTube. I am going to review their interactions and dirty secrets. I will then ask them some questions, reaching out via Twitter, for them to respond at their earliest convenience. I am looking forward to listening to their content and writing out my thoughts. I will have to get from them the links to their other podcast platforms as well. I believe they are on Spotify at the very least. It appears to be an up and coming brand-new joint podcast project. I perceive that they have had their own personal podcast projects prior to joining forces (a great question to ask them). Here is the description to their podcast that can be found on their YouTube page below: "Do you have a dirty little secret? Welcome to the club. From Coast to Coast, the Beauty from the West and the Beast from the East are offering you a VIP ticket to the dirtiest little secrets this club has to offer. Dayna (That Trophy Wife Life Podcast) and Brimstone (The Grindhouse Radio) let you take a peek into our own personal Pandora's Box of anonymous secrets submitted through our website. So what are you waiting for? Step on in, and let's get scandalous". Here is the website for The Dirty Little Secrets Club (submit your dirty secrets anonymously): https://thedirtylittlesecretsclub.com/ Here is the link for The Dirty Little Secrets Club on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSfBAhv_AMZ3p1NptQ8JGjg The show has a Twitter handle and can be found on Instagram under the show's title as well. The funny thing is when you first click on the video, they look like such an unlikely pairing. Dayna does indeed have the dainty, self-proclaimed "trophy wife" look. Meanwhile, Brimstone has the long hair & beard dare I say "hippie" look. If he said he followed Fish or The Grateful Dead, I would totally believe him. Despite appearing to be coming from different planets, they actually vibe very well together. I totally appreciate that Dayna does not shy away from raunchy topics!! She surprised me in the most pleasant manner! She is not afraid to roll her sleeves up and get "dirty". She speaks about the raunchiest topics in such a soft manner like she is delivering the grocery list. If anything, she reminds me of myself a little bit. I tend to add a little extra to a very disgusting yet very funny topic. When I worked in the field, I threw my co-workers off with my candid observations. She has a sick sense of humor like I do. I laughed my ass off at the story on the group of guys pitching in together and buying and sharing a fleshlight!!! I won't give away what episode it came from. You will need to look for it yourself. As a mom of two sons who has a very open and honest relationship, that subject is not surprising to me at all. I have heard of stories about making passionate noises with the fleshlight that rattled the headboard. When I heard the stories, I could barely breathe due to laughing so damn hard!! I also cracked up at Dayna mentioning that she would call her husband's fleshlight (if he had one) as per sister wife. Bbbllaaahhhh!!!!!! :P I indeed found myself listening to more of their podcast episodes than I would normally do for a review. I often will do reviews eyes and ears unseen previously. I actually have a funny and embarrassing story that I need to share with them on their website. I would be totally amused by their discussion on the topic. I learned a new term, "holy milk" by listening to a podcast episode. I was also humored by "Missing The Honeypot". This made me laugh as well. Some creep gave them a dirty secret of inserting pretzels inside the hole of the penis. The fella like the abrasive nature that came from the salt passing the skin. I was like WWHHAATTT!!??? I then heard Brimstone recommend to the fella to be careful since that can be infection central!! Yikes!! Brimstone goes to quip that the guy is "as-salting" his penis! Bbbllaahh!!! I envisioned a Mount Rushmore of puss erupting from his member followed by massive pain!! He then shared that he knew a guy with 30 piercings between his twig and berries. There are no short supply of crazy stories being told and the following funny banter between the two hosts. They always say that true life is stranger than fiction. It sounds like The Dirty Little Secrets Club is not exception to the rule. As a woman who has been in construction in New York for the past +25-years, I have heard the craziest stories on the jobsites. We had a guy on the job with the nickname "Porno *Saul" who had a massive collection of dirty magazines. He used to bring them into work and offered them to the general foreman. He slid the manila envelope across the break table during coffee break. I absolutely lost my shit when I witnessed that debauchery! I neared about what "feltching" is by exposure to this fella. I'm not telling-look it up. My son is an apprentice on the job and reports that the man is now a born-again Christian. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to their podcast episodes. I will more than likely check out future episodes. It makes me want to also listen to their personal podcast projects in the future. Here is a sample funny episode that can be found on YouTube: The Dirty Secrets Club | Holy Milk | Season 1, Episode #19 on YouTube: https://youtu.be/pNDBIy8pT3E The Dirty Secrets Club | Missing The Honeypot | Season 1, Episode #24 on YouTube: https://youtu.be/PXEi2JAInYI MY QUESTIONS FOR THE DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS CLUB TEAM: 1.) How did you choose "The Dirty Little Secrets Club" concept and podcast name? 2.) How did you two meet? 3.) Where are you all from? 4.) How often do you get dirty little secrets for your podcast episodes? Have they increased as you generate episodes? 5.) What are the day jobs of everyone on the team? Go ahead and promote your businesses and I will share it for you. 6.) Did you each have your own personal podcast projects before meeting each other? 7.) Name 3 key lessons, you have learned the hard way, while creating your podcast episodes? 8.) Name 3 screw-ups you had either prior to launching or while creating your podcast? 9.) Share any social media links that I have not listed in this blog post? 10) Do you have access to big names to interview yet? 11) What are the topics of your next few episodes you plan to release to give the audience a tease? 12) Are either of you authors? 13) What is the ultimate goal of your podcast? 14) What does your friends, family members, and spouses think about the podcast? 15) Who is your audience and where in the world are the majority of them from? 16) What is the raunchiest dirty little secret that has been shared? 17) Has there been a topic that you struggled to share on a podcast episode? 18) What is the name of the artist and song used at the end of your podcast episode? I SHALL UPDATE THE RESPONSES TO THE QUESTIONS WHEN I RECEIVE THEM. If you do not like or appreciate adult humor and content, I do not recommend you checking out this content. Then again, if you are reading my content, you must have some form of a dirty, funny bone in ya. You see where I went with that!? Ha!! Never mind-proceed as usual! I have to say that I am humored by the content and would love to do a future collaboration if the opportunity came up in the future. Perhaps I can share some crazy stories from the time when I worked with the guys with the tools. If you like my raw, dirty construction chick stories, you will also like Dayna & Brimstone at The Dirty Little Secrets Club! Go check them out! I highly recommend listening to this podcast. That is my review of The Dirty Little Secrets Club! I'm super grateful for you stopping by to check out my review on The Dirty Little Secrets Club. I thank you for including me in your AM/PM routine when you check out my content today. I am always humored if you are sneaking away to read/listen to this while at work. Ssshh, your secret is safe with me!! :P Let me know if you find my review interesting? I will add any questions to the pile if you leave them in the comment section. I am pimping out my latest, two podcasts that I released for The Verbally Disastrous Podcast via links for Spotify, Amazon Music, & YouTube below. Hello Everyone! You need to be having a fabulous day today on your side of the globe today!? I have some journals, sketchbooks, planners, etc. that are now on Amazon. I was approached by a friend about having t-shirts available for purchase. It was something that I kept forgetting to do. I went on Tee-Spring to initially go on and get the t-shirts to honor the request. I was just going to buy them and pass them out as promos. I then realized that I could honor the request through creating a store. It is labeled as The Verbally Disastrous Store on Tee-Spring. I want to return the favor to the Piggly Dogg Podcast and sent them some stickers very soon. I have to find some clever places to place the stickers. Anyone who has been or want to spam my comment section, I have a proposal for you!!! Buy something from my Tee-Spring store, except stickers and electronic logo, and record yourself say 30 seconds or less sharing what you purchased in a video. I will promote whatever product or service you are promoting on all of my social media platforms. Let's just say that you are paying for advertising. Let me know when you take me up on my offer? Written Transcript: Podcast Episode #36: Donny's High Voltage Career Stories-Part B

Hello Everyone! I sure hope you are having a fabulous day today on your side of the globe!? As I shared before, I have been working on journals, sketchbooks, planners, etc. that are now on Amazon. I am sharing my latest, two podcasts that I released for The Verbally Disastrous Podcast via links for +20 podcast platforms and YouTube. Here is the written transcript for the Verbally Disastrous Podcast Episode #36: Donny's High Voltage Career Stories- Part B. I know some terms are technical. Therefore, I am offering the written/audio version of the transcript. Ladies, gentlemen, and disappointments. We are coming to you live from the woman caves in New York and Connecticut. My name is Leslie and my name is Melissa and we are Verbally Disastrous. 00:20 i 00:26 Hello everyone, this is your host Leslie M. Jasper of the Verbally Disastrous Podcast that can be found on over 20 podcast platforms and YouTube. For this episode, this is Part B on the discussion with my lifelong pal Donny as we cover his 40-year career as a high voltage splicer in New York. If for some reason you missed Part A, go back into the podcast platform of your choice and go find it so you can listen to the beginning of the discussion. Now, let's go listen and see what other kinds of random stuff and questions that I can hit Donny with. Alright, let's take a listen. Check it out. Did you have a mentor in the business that inspired you? Whether it be splicing or electrical? Somebody that you looked up to when you first started? Harry Clifford. How did he inspire you? Splicing. Okay, so he was a seasoned guy and did you interact with him on a particular project or was that in the classroom? He took me under his wing and we went by for months at a time. Oh! Okay. So you guys were lucky because you had the buddy system so to speak, right? Yup. So he was your pimp outside the hole? He was a splicer. He was an inside wireman. He was a splicer like I do. Okay. So, I'm envisioning you were able to work with him on projects because there were multiple manholes? 02:00 Yeah. Okay, 'cause I'm envisioning say one man hole and one person in the hole and one person's got to be out of the hole. I was working for a contractor I running the job for him and it wasn't going well 'cause they didn't like the way I was doing things. I was general foreman and Harry called me up and says, "I have a proposition for ya." What ya got? He says, "I got splicing to do on the railroad". I said, "how long do you think we will be there?" He said, "I don't know. About six months". I said, "I'm in!" I'm called the guy up and said, "Listen. I gotta go splice". Farting over there? Stop farting! 02:37 Now, how many people would you say, as far as contractors are concerned, 'cause they knew? Say they hire you for an electrical contractor to say to do regular electrical work. How many of them ******* and moaned when they knew that you had to drop what you're doing to go do a splice? Really none of them because they all. That's how they got me. Oh! Okay. Okay, so that worked out well for you because their hand was in. A percentage going to them. I never left 'em in a lurch. If I had to finish something with them, I do what I gotta do. Then I go to the other contractor. Gotcha. I wouldn't just leave. 03:14 So you're saying that you were working in the middle of something. But you never ran into a time where there were two emergencies at once? I'd do 'em in the afternoon. It's safe to say that there was not a lot of sleep during this era? No. Sometimes. When I was out of work , back in the 90's, I didn't get called at all for splices. 03:39 No, no calls at all? Solid for 3-1/2 years? None. No, of course, you had to do roofing. Didn't you share you did roofing? You did some carpeting? I started with appliances. Would you say selling appliances? No, fixing. Oh, fixing appliances. A+ AC Service. Ah, okay. So then the family plumbing background was helpful, right? Yeah, and I never fixed a washer/dryer before. I figured how hard is it? Do you think? I got a company name. I got all paperwork. In the Yellow Pages. No way. I was the first one in the Yellow Pages. A+ AC Service. That was the name of your company? Yup. I did air conditioners too. Now, did you like that work or are you just like, that's putting food on the table? I liked it. 04:33 I was working for myself, you know. People would call. They would look through the Yellow Pages. They would see the first one and there I was, right? Because of the 'A' in the list. Very smart. So is that what you thought about ahead of time or it just happened to be a name you came up with? I knew that I'd be the first one in the Yellow Pages. Perfect! Now, do you think with that experience, back in the 90s when you were repairing washers and dryers, do you think that the dryers and washers that they have out today you'd throw your hands in the air? Or you think it would be even easier because you can hook up a diagnostics to it electronically and fix it directly? Yeah, you could probably hook up. I mean everything's computerized now. I think my question is more so, which one do you think is easier? Today? Or the old days? Old days. Just like the cars, right? I used to get into a car and change the oil. That you can't find the oil filter. Yeah, right. The 'olden era.' There was less parts to have to contend with. Less electronics. Computers are more expensive. They don't make anything to last, right? Yeah, it ends up more cost effective to just trash it and buy a new one. Up in Rhinebeck, $10, I was at a flee market and some guy had a 1948 washer. Wringer washer. That thing worked great! 05:58 1948 washer? Yeah, a wringer washer. What year did you buy it? Now you're asking too many questions. Just roughly. I didn't ask for the day. Like the eighties? Nineties? Yeah, probably 90's. Okay. I left it at the house. What am I gonna do with it now? I remember switching from an old, top load washer. When you have a septic, it uses 40 gallons of water. I bought a front loader LG and it went to 8 gallons but it would sense the load. Yeah, it would sense the load and go less than 8 gallons depending on how heavy it was and it was so great if you have a septic problem. Using an old washer/dryer ends up ******* you with septic problems. So, you're better off buying the new equipment. Paying for the water. When you have a well and septic, you're not paying for it. But if you have problems where your septic overfills, then you're like damn it! I should have spent the money and bought modern machine. what you can afford. Agreed. Agreed. Do you have a coworker, other than Lucky, that you really hated working with? No. He's literally the worst!? Yeah, he's the worst. 07:08 Yeah, there's nobody else. There's no like running second? Second to him? You may have to edit this one out. One time I got called to contractor and we had to work under a tent. Remember I told you a story eating dinner the other day? Remind me. Anyway. We got to work with the city guys. I said okay. So I looked at him. I looked at him up and down and I says to him before we went in the hole. Before we went in under the tent. I said, "you're not a fag?" He says, "what?" "You're not gay or nothing are ya?" He says, "why?" "I go under the tent, I don't want you to grab me". He says, "You know, first of all, you don't even know my ******* name, right?" 07:50 "I'm just hoping you can answer that". Okay, because it's a simple. A simple yes or no answer. So he said, "No! Absolutely not". I said, "Okay, cool". So we walk under the tent, I slapped his ass! You should have seen this guy jump. 08:06 He didn't want to work with me. That was it. 08:09 But you were messing with. 08:13 He said, "what did you do that for?" I just wanted to make sure you weren't gonna reciprocate. 08:20 That one's not a bad story to tell. Actually a funny story to tell. Now, do you actually miss working? I loved it. Yeah I do. I see these guys on the poles and in the manholes. Now I'm bored. High voltage. High voltage. Yes. Do you miss the routine of working? Or what exactly about it do you miss? I miss guys calling me up and saying, "listen. Can you turn the power on for me? Can you fix it?" Say someone has this sense of urgency and they need you over there right now and then. Did you ever feel some form of pressure you were able to block it out? You ready for this one? Yep, go ahead. I was at the Ravin's Clam Bake and I got a call from BOCES, Yorktown Heights. He says, "Donny, I got your name from Con Ed". "What can I do for you?" He said the power went down. I'm sorry. I got your name from New York State Gas and Electric. He said, "New York State Gas and Electric like turned off my power". He said, "the transformer was no good". okay, I'll be up there tomorrow". "No! No! No! You have to come up today! I have no power in the whole place". I said, "Right now, I'm on an emergency". As I'm eating another shrimp. So I says, "I can come tomorrow, right? Yeah. I called Advanced Testing. Sent at Pat up there. Checked out the transformer. It was fine. Checked out the switch. It was fine. I have two gloves? two gloves? I says, "Here's what turned off your power off". I pulled out a woodchuck. Oh! A woodchuck went up there and got fried up. Nice! said, "not only I did I fix your problem, I've got lunch for you too guys". 09:47 He said, "What about a generator?" I said, "You don't need generator." I had him powered up in about an hour. He was freaking the **** out. You know, people freak out because they have no power, right? Ok, so you were able to just turn it off? I know damn well, I'd go there and fix it. 10:02 You One time I did a job in Staten Island. Well, here we go again. New York City. 10:08 It was 35K down at the vaults. Con Ed guy says, "Have you ever done these kind of splices before?" "Yeah, I've done 100's of 'em." So we high potted 115,000 volts, alright. DC. I said, "how did I do?" He said, "Don, you did a great job". I said, "Good. That was my first one". "What!?" I said, "I never did none of those splices before." I didn't. So you told them that you did and then you went and did it and then after afterwards you told him, "nah, I didn't do that?" Can't be scared. 10:41 I know what you're saying. You gotta get rid of that fear because it impedes your performance. The only time I got scared was one time I was at Playland. There was a splice that was tied to the ceiling for some reason. I didn't put it up there. I'm down there doing a splice in the man hole. This commercial break is brought to you courtesy of yours truly, author Leslie M. Jasper. I am the author of the book, Construction Tales: Volume One: A Woman's Journey To Become An Electrician. I also have available for Kindle Vella some short stories to check out in the Kindle Vella library that can be found on Amazon. For more information, head over to my website at www.constructiontales.com 11:28 Now, let's go back to that story and see what Don also has to say. You're listening to the Verbally Disastrous Podcast. This thing came down and hit me in the neck, Right? Oh, the splice hit you in the neck? Hit me in the neck and it was still alive. Yeah. So I crawled up like a baby into the corner. I was waiting for this thing to blow up. Thank God it never did. What do I do? I tied it back up to the ceiling. Gosh! It literally hit your neck. Oh gosh! That was live?! It was live. wow. God was watching you. I got called up to the old Union Carbide. Which is Regeneron now? Yes. and he said, "You gotta go in that hole in the floor and pull cables". said to my partner, "measure that man hole." 20 inches wide, right? Moe, measure my shoulders- no way! No way I'm going in that manhole. What are we gonna do? We gotta take the top off. We gotta take top off. I gotta take the chiminey off and I gotta chip it up to 3 foot and then I'll go in there. Well, we gotta talk about that. It's okay. You can talk all you want. I'm not going in there. So, came back to where I did it, right? I chopped it out to three foot. I climbed down there. All of a sudden. I have one set of cables on my belly. This is how tight it was. One set of cables on my butt my back. I said to the guys, "Listen. You guys gotta give me that ladder". "Why?" So I got out of there. All the cables were vibrating. Yeah. I mean they're gonna go soon. 13:00 So, what are we gonna do? We gotta shut down. Shut down this whole complex. The one I gotta work on is one underneath all these ones that are vibrating. I said, "I'm not doing it". He said, "We'll call this other company". "They're going to call me and I'm not going to do it". 13:14 At one point, I was the only one doing it in Westchester. Have you seen anybody that you worked with that ended up having an accident while in a manhole? No. Thank goodness. I remember working at Yonkers Raceway with Richie and he sends me outside with this other guy. The guy wanted to go in the hole without sniffing it, without a tri-stand, without a harness. I was just like, "you're not ******* doing it!" He and I got into this whole argument. He goes, "I'm only going to be in there for a couple of seconds." I'm like, "that's all it takes to get overcome and die in the hole and then now I gotta explain to everybody why the **** I let you go in that hole". He was all ****** *** right? I go back in and Richie was "that's why I sent you out there 'cause I knew you weren't gonna let him to go in there and do anything stupid". Now I think someone went up in the bucket truck with that girl. Oh! Yes, and I don't remember exactly what it was that happened. I think they was in a rush. The bucket went on its side, 'cause the way they had it positioned. It wasn't level. There were no outriggers. Yes, they didn't use outriggers and it was like going to uneven surface. She had to get out of the business. I heard her face had to be reconstructed because when the bucket went down it landed on its side. Yeah, for people who don't know that, you oftentimes you get a lot of pressure to perform a job and get it done. So you gotta remove that pressure off of you and then do the work. I do know somebody that got burnt up. Oh. It was at the airport. Remember that guy that worked for Verde? Oh the guy Joe (edit). Yeah, it's a shame. It's a shame that something happened to him because it sounded like he was like a guy just like my other buddy used to call me, "The Girl." He was wild, John 15:00 P. It sounded like they were along the same lines where the guy would put his tongue on on a live wire and you're like, "why the **** are you doing that?" He's like, "you know, I've done this for years. Basically nothing has happened". So, he'd literally put it on his tongue to test it. I couldn't believe it. Yes, something happened. Look at how stupid you are. Yeah. Yeah. Unfortunately he was close to retiring too, right? Actually, yeah. He put his papers in already, you know. Oh, he put his papers in and he was still working and he was almost ready to go out? Ready to go in a couple of weeks. Oh my gosh! That makes it even worse. Somebody told me the story that it was towards the end of the day. It was the end the day. He saw something off and he went into. Do you remember the airport? Did those runway lights. For the signs. I just remember some trench work. I don't recall being at a location where I was like close to the runway. Everything 5,000 volts. The signs are 110 with a transformer right? No, I'm sorry. The signs are 277 (volts) with a step down transformer and the lights are 110 (volts) step down transformer. Those connections are so shitty. All you do is push them together. It's a really crappy set up, you know. It's easy for them to to short out? All these hand holes. They're really short. They're not only short. It fills with water, right? So, you don't put your hands in there when it's hot. No. Oh, that's what he did? He put his hand in there and he blasted on 5,000 volts? Word is that he was on fire. Oh, I didn't hear that part. They saw him from the tower burning. Ah! He was out there by himself? I Remember that girl lineman? Girl lineman. Can't remember her name. Susie? Oh, she's a lineman. Blonde girl. Anyway, she was there but she was in another man hole. She didn't know what was going on. She couldn't get to him fast enough anyway. Yeah, yeah. Tuck and roll. Yeah, yeah. Damn. That's a shame. The real downsides of not being careful, right? I'll pose the question again. The three lessons, knowing what you know now, the three lessons that you would extend to people, say electricians, 17:00 would be what? Don't trust anyone. Okay. Don't believe it's dead. Don't believe 'em. I found out when I was a 1st year apprentice. First job. My first pair of side cutters. Joe Valente. Old man Joe Valente. 277 lights up on the Galleria in White Plains. Joe says, "they're dead". "Are you sure they're dead Joe?" "Yeah, they're dead". Stupid me. I didn't cut one at a time. I cut both. Well, my pliers went over, over top and off to Main Street. So, that was the last time I trusted anybody. Yeah, definitely, definitely no. Don't trust anybody. I remember Dave (edit) years ago he came screaming. We're in this cubicle space and unoccupied and it was a retrofit. He comes in screaming at somebody because they told him that something was dead and he just decided to cut it and he got blasted. So, of course we're all breaking his chops. Saying whether or not we could put our hand over the top of his head and feel some sort of static. Now, what is your advice to young people who want to get into the Union? Do it because you enjoy it. Agreed. If you're doing it for the money, forget about it. Do it because you enjoyed it. Enjoy the work. Otherwise, going to work sucks, you know. Yes, of course. You gotta have that sense of satisfaction. Enjoyment on completing a project. You gotta do the best you can. You can't go in there and just take up space, you know. Get off your phone. Go to work. Get off your phone. Do what you're supposed to be doing. Agreed. Do you have any bucket list goals now that you're retired? There are. Collect as many checks as we can. 18:33 That's your number one bucket list? Just to stay alive. What's your other? Do you have any other bucket list goals? Watch your grandkids grow up. Travel little bit. And maybe next year will make 100 gallon of wine. A 100 gallons of wine? That's a good goal. Buy a machine for that. We're not pressing this. Yeah right, imagine? There's a machine that that plucks the stems? There is but it's like $1500 bucks and you only use it for 10 minutes. Wow. Yeah, so what's the point? Ten minutes versus two days though. Yeah, but two days works for us. Oh, my bad. I forgot. Not like you gotta go somewhere. I mean, I do gotta go somewhere. I gotta pick up the granddaughter too and come back. Came here until I fall into the grapes. 19:18 My barrel right now is full. My last question for you, What do you think your legacy is within the industry will be? None of my splices blew up. Okay. Not one. Very good. One would say 50 years from now, when your name is mentioned, they're going to say not one of his places ever blew up. They might say that fat bastard. The teddy bear. Big fat teddy bear bastard. Yeah. 19:46 What's that? Say it again? Tell Johnny all fat guys don't just die young. That's right. You don't have to carry me. I don't think anybody can carry me. So I'm just gonna get cremated. Nah, Tom and Johnny could carry you. I know some good electricians that could also be up for the task as well. Then put you in two separate urns? 20:06 How about a wine glass? I mean not a wine glass. What's wrong with me? A wine jug? Yeah, I know, right? We'd have them all filled up. I'm going to ask another question. Your viewpoint from the time you decided to first get into the business towards retirement. The span of time. The 40 years. Would you say you think differently? From getting in and leaving? Yes. Oh, I'm glad I did what I did was learn how to do a cable splicing. Bernie push me to that. I wasn't gonna do it. 20:38 She said, "Go ahead, go!" So I did. That was the best 3-years I could have done. So you credit Bernie for pushing you to finish the school? Supporting you? Yup. Fabulous. Towards the end of the career. New York State put me on their specs. You will hire Don Raffa. Yeah, New York State, County of Westchester, IBM. Westchester Airport? Westchester Airport. They would put me on their specs. They will hire me if they want job. So you were guaranteed at what point in your career? I guess about 15 years ago. Fifteen years into it. Okay. That's a good achievement to have that on that level. It's an excellent, excellent legacy to have. I thought so. It made me really, feel really good, you know, and all the contractors wanted me. That's good too. Yeah, excellent. I would work with them and I never screwed nobody. I just went and did the job. Everybody was always happy with their job. You know, it was always clean. Always done right? Well, I don't know if you have any other stories to share? Well, you told me to talk. I know right? Well, I will wrap up this. I thank you. I believe I don't have any more questions for you. I thank you for taking the time to multitask with me and share some stories. Some high voltage stories. I'm sure when you hear these podcast episodes, you may say, "oh, I got a story." So we can always come back and re-discover your world as a high voltage splicer in New York. But I thank you for taking the time to juggle 'cause I know he's juggling grapes and the winemaking process, while talking to me at the same time. The creaking of the chair adds character to the story. It's 'cause I gotta fat ass. 22:31 I'm gonna leave these guys to their business. But I appreciate Don coming on to talk to me about his stories. This wraps up Part B on the discussion with my longtime pal, Don Rafa, who is a retired high voltage splicer up in the territory that he used to work in probably every manhole in Westchester County, New York. If you like the story and you'd like to ask some more questions, say for another podcast episode. Feel free to reach out to me. Written Transcript: Podcast Episode #35: Donny's High Voltage Career Stories-Part A

Here is the written transcript for the Verbally Disastrous Podcast Episode #35: Donny's High Voltage Career Stories- Part A. I know some terms are technical. Therefore, I am offering the written/audio version of the transcript. Ladies, gentlemen, and disappointments. We are coming to you live from the woman caves in New York and Connecticut. My name is Leslie and my name is Melissa and we are Verbally Disastrous. 00:20 i 00:26 Hello everyone! This is your host Leslie Jasper of the Verbally Disastrous Podcast that can be found on over 20 podcast platforms, including YouTube. For this episode, I decided to bring my really good friend who has been an electrician- 40 years. Retired for ten. His name is Donny Raffa. He volunteered to sit with me over the phone and talk about his career as a high voltage electrical splicer. In New York, of course. So, we've known each other since pretty much I topped out and became a journeywoman around 2001 is how long I've known him. Actually, it might. It might have been more in the 90's too. I'm just going to say it's at least a 20/over 20-year friendship. So, he's working in the garage working on grapes. Taking the stems and the leaves off of them because this is the season where he gets his harvest of grapes. I guess he said he had 50 pounds of grapes that he is processing and getting them ready so that they can ferment over the next year and then they will belong to the batch of wine for next year. So, he does a perpetual process. He enjoys it and it gives him something to do. So, because of that, I was finally able to nail him where he's sitting still because he likes to keep himself busy. So, I was able to get him to sit down and discuss with 02:00 me about his lifetime career as a splicer. Because the majority of his career, he was a high voltage splicer. So, I'm introducing Donny in the garage. Now he's sitting in these wooden chairs that have some history to them. He said they give characters to the story. So, therefore, I'm going to leave it in. If people have an issue with that, I'll have him come back on. We'll schedule another time and then he can share some more stories 'cause I'm sure there's 40 years of stories. There's plenty more than what he shared in these episodes. So now I have part A. This is the first half of the discussion where I bring him in while he's busy working in his garage. So, let's check it out. Now, I'm introducing my longtime pal for what 20? 20 years? 25? 20 years. His name is Donny. He's a retired high voltage splicer slash electrician. Which one do you identify with more? Being an electrician or more so the specialty is the high voltage splicing? Splicer. I sucked as an electrician. What 03:12 did you say? I sucked as an electrician. A high voltage splicer it. It's much better. Is there a reason for? You enjoyed it more? So then it was more rewarding whereas it sounds like you don't like doing other pieces of the electrical. A lot of people don't realize being an interior wireman is anything from low voltage to high voltage. I don't think I ever did 'switchin and pluggin'. No, you never did? If I did. No. Years ago. Like I don't know. I've retired now like 10 years. You've been retired 10 years now? It'll be 10 years. Well, February. Wow, and he's enjoying a Local #3 pension and making the best. He's over here probably multitasking while he's talking to me. Taking the stems off grapes right? For that process? Right now I'm getting 20 cases of grapes ready for for wine. I got to see the last batch. Now, at what age and year did you join the Union and become an apprentice? 1979. Let's see; I was 21. How long was your apprenticeship? Because mine was in the late 90s, it was five and a half years. Four years. Okay. Now, why did you join the electrician's union? What prompted you to do that? Don't you come from a family of plumbers? Plumbers. My father was a plumber. My uncle was a plumber. I took the plumber's test and I got into the plumber's. But I also applied for college and I went to college instead. 05:01 And they said I can still become a plumber anytime I want. So, when I got out, I tried. I wanted to weld because I went to welding school in Texas. I didn't know that. Yeah, so wanted to weld. I wanted to go to the fitters. I took the Fitter's Test. Plumber's test. No, I'm sorry. Took the Fitter's test. I took the Electrical test. The Fitter's messed up on their test. Which is all the same test anyway right. They messed up or you messed up? How did they mess up? You're saying as far as releasing the test? What's that? They didn't give me all the parts for the test. They didn't give you. When they were proctoring the exam, they didn't give out all the components of the required exam? Yeah. My father said, "well, I can get you in the Electrican's". Okay, we'll do that. Your father, by the way (rest in peace) he was an awesome man. I always appreciated him. When I would see him and he used to call, he used to call me, 'his idol'. Which I always thought that was funny 'cause I was thinking, 'you're way cooler than me' but go ahead now. Your father and your brother are plumbers? My father, my brother are plumbers. Yep. Yep. Did he end up becoming a contractor? My brother or my father? Either one. My father actually was a delegate. Not a delegate but he did the minutes. What do you call that? Is it a treasurer? Somebody is in charge of the finances? He was also a treasurer but he did that as well. He might have been a shop stewart, like you're saying the meeting minutes. The Union meeting minutes. Always a superintendent. Superintendent. Okay, so he was manpower. Manpower yup. Did he transition from being with the tools, after say 10 years, and then become supervision? Yeah, he was also in Korea as a plumber. Really? Oh, that's how he started out in the military? 07:00 Yep yep. Ah. So, was he in the Seabees? He was in the plumber's before he went into the Army. Oh, we went in the Army. Okay. Then he got called into the Army. He was doing the hospitals. Okay. In Korea, and actually, there's still there I heard. I hear a chair in the background. I don't know if that's gonna. That's because I'm just 350 pounds. 07:31 Of all, all muscle. My ass makes noise like that and I got no ass. It's why the pants are always falling around. Johnny's got the same problem. It's like I always want him to wear a belt and then he's just like, "nah, I'm good". The minute he bends over, plumber's crack. I don't have any belts. I got to put suspenders on my underwear. 07:59 Yes, my name is Don Raffa. 08:05 At what point in your career did you decide to get into high voltage splicing? When I was a 4th year apprentice, I was a pimp for a couple of splicers over at IBM in Yorktown. You said a pimp? I was a pimp. Yeah. A pimp is a spicer's helper. Oh no way. I didn't know that. Yeah, you are my pimp. Oh yes, I was your pimp for quite, quite a while. Where does that term come from? 08:35 I don't know. Did I make it up? No, probably not. 08:41 Everybody had to sign in. Now, this was back before the the hip hop world came around and you had the pimps. But no. Pimp is probably when you're referencing the street life. Someone that helps me do what I'm doing. 09:00 They wear a fur coat? Driving a Cadillac? Just a top hat. Just a top. Drop top. 09:12 1984- I was doing it. We're doing work at IBM Yorktown and they were doing a lot of lead work. Lead work always. I always like lead work because of my father. I learned pouring lead with my father as a plumber. Okay. Right. So, it came to me. So, I mentioned to the guys, "hey listen. If they have a class, I'm taking it". Yep. So they had a class as soon as I topped out in 1984. That's a lucky thing. A lucky break now. That's good. 09:49 So the the high voltage class was theory and application, right? All together it was four years. How long was the theory? Hands on in the school was three years. Hands on is 3 years and the theory where you sitting in the class is one year of the four years? You're sitting in the class with hands on, but you're building splices right. Okay, so it's more practicing in the classroom and then once you get into the last three years, it's on-the-job training? Well no. We're spicing in the class room for three years. Okay, so it was all within the classroom. At what point did you go out to the field? Probably the last year of school. How did your first time go once it was game time and you had to go into the manhole for your first time? I felt so confident, it was unbelievable. Really? Every time I went into man hole, I felt confident. Not competent. Confident. Confident. Not competent. So you're saying that being confident got over any kind of fear? I had no fear. No fear. Which is important when you're potentially what kind of voltage? Let the audience know what kind of voltage is in the pit? Anywhere between 5,000-35,000 I worked with. 35,000 volts? 11:17 Yeah, for the people who don't know what that is. Yeah, 35,000 volts. How do you graduate? What's your means of graduating? From school? Yeah. Make sure all your joints didn't blow up and the teachers were happy at what you did, what you learned. Explain what a joint is for a person who has no idea what that means and it's not something you smoke. Well hopefully, you don't want it to smoke. Of course, I'm sorry, it's splices. Okay, it's a connection for the average person. It's a connection between the two wires joining them together. It could be it be soldered, high pressed. There's different ways of doing it. Now lead. Lead is an old way of doing it. Or is it a new way? The old cable used to be lead. The outside jacket used to be lead. Ahhh, Okay. PPR- now it's a rubber. Right, the insulation is rubber. It used to be oil paper. Now it's PPR or a rubber insulation. They don't do what they used to do years ago. It was joints called, it was connectors or splices called potheads and they were also lead. Which was, for some, it could be hard, you know. But for me they came easy. Now would you say that, going away from the lead splicing, Which one do you think is better mechanically? I think the lead is. 12:53 But the problem with it is it costs more? It costs more and you have to train the people, right? There's other stuff now that they're not even training people. Oh. The contractors are just going out there and oh okay. I'll send this guy out with the instructions. If he can do it, fine. Which is not a good thing because if they blow up. It could be a time bomb in there, even if it didn't go off immediately. Now, what's your funniest high voltage splicing story? If you have a couple of them, you can share them, of course. 13:32 I was working and I forget the names and I'm glad it did because maybe I shouldn't say their names. I was at. I was on one job. 13:45 Westchester Community College and it was a beautiful night and I was talking to the guy on top of the man hole. I was in the man hole about 15 feet down. All of a sudden, I stopped talking to him because I was concentrating on what I was doing. My neck started getting wet. Why is my neck wet? 14:06 I look up. The guy is sound asleep. Drooling all over my neck. No! He's outside the manhole like leaned into the hole with his face exposed to where he's dripping on your neck? My neck was soaking wet. 14:23 Is it safe to say that this unidentified person was not the best type of worker? Or was he just tired? It was at the end of the night. I probably would have done the same thing, but I wouldn't be spitting on the guy. You go somewhere and lay low, say in the back of the van, right? I tied a string around his leg and told him to lean against van. 14:47 I'll tug on his leg. So, you'd use the string to call help? Did that work? Did you have to do that? Yeah, I did it. 14:58 I knew I was gonna be down there a couple more hours so. Wow. Now the longest splicing job that you've ever had to do where you had to stay on the job. You couldn't leave and go home to go rest was how long? 60 hours. 60 hours? Nice. IBM. IBM Yorktown? Yup. They never wanted me to leave. They always wanted me to stay there. To continue doing what I'm doing and they did. 15:26 Yeah, the longest time was 60 hours. Well, I remember when we were working nights. Was it at Avon where we did the shut? Yeah, we did the shutdown where we were x-raying the equipment and tightening neutrals. Yeah. That shut down was how long? It wasn't that long. It was just over night, right? Yeah, but then we did some other shutdowns. I could have sworn they were at Avon. No, were you at the sheetrock plant or you were gone by then? Ah. We were working a lot of time there. I did. I remember us doing some shutdowns. I know we did that shut down on Central Avenue. That strip mall that Paulie and I were at. Where he was grinding in the back of the panel and it was near some feeders. I'm like, "if you **** this up, I'm going to get blasted". He goes, "well, that's why I know you're going to pay attention". 16:21 It was like Hartsdale or whatever. Was it near Trader Joe's? I'm trying to remember. For anybody who's New York, they would get the reference. Anybody else would be like, "what the hell are these people talking about?!" 16:33 Yeah, it was on Central. I remember us doing shots of espresso at night. We gotta wait till we get this wire pulled in and everything terminated and everything back on. Now what would be your three lessons? Lessons learned on your high voltage splicing journey? 16:57 You have to be on top of your game. Okay. Alert all the time because anything can happen because 13,000 volts. It's not like it's a light switch where you can just hit the breaker and they go back on. Which would be, for the person who doesn't know, versus 120 or 277 volts. Right. 13,000 will kill you. Yes. Quick. It has, you know. Have you ever seen anybody survive 13,000 volts? I've seen a kid. Yeah, actually. That's another funny story. Okay. But That's not really funny, because again, the kid was a jerk, right? Yep. He comes on the job and I won't say where it was. It doesn't matter. Westchester Community College. He works at Westchester Community College. Okay. So, I got a call saying, "uh, listen. We had an outage over here. You gotta come fix it". I said okay. So, I go look and check it out and I'm looking for the outage. I'm looking for where the damaged cable was. We couldn't find it so we got advanced testing. We were dumping it. That's when we tested cable and it dumps. It tells you where the problem is. Yes. We couldn't find it. So all of a sudden, their foreman calls me he says, "did the kid call you?" I said no. He said he's supposed to call ya. Well, give him my number again. Maybe he got the wrong number. He calls me up and he says, "hey Donny." He says, "you remember that man hole?" I said, "what man hole would that be babe?" He says, "The manhole over by whatever building it was", I don't remember. I said, "okay, what about it?" He says, "well, you told me it was dead". I said, "no, I would never tell you that. I would never tell you anything is dead." Right? No, you gotta test it yourself. Always 19:00 test it yourself. There's no way in hell I would tell him that's dead. Yep. I said, "so what did you do?" He says, "I cut it". "You cut it!?" 19:10 With a pair of loppers. "You cut 13,000 volts with a pair of loppers?" He said "yeah". I said, "did you change your underwear yet?" He says, "yeah, matter of fact I did". I said then, "well then go play lottery. You're a lucky bastard!" Nothing happened to the loppers? No, the loppers got burnt. Okay. I heard about people blowing their arm off and stuff like that. Well, that's another story. Yeah, so he didn't get hurt but. It rattled him. He did give me work. He gave you work. He gave you more work. Cha-ching to me. Yep. Chaos equals cash. Yup, chaos equals cash. Wow. Did he get fired? No, he didn't get fired. They fucked shit up because he came in on Saturday to pull the wire out to go to the junk yard. Apparently, his foreman was in on it. Oh! Oh! Okay, so that's what they were trying to sneak in there before you came in for the splice and yanked the wire 'cause they were going to scrap it? Yeah, they were 20:17 gonna scrap it. Of course, and he's going to say that you told him it was dead. Which is bullshit. Hell no. I wouldn't even tell you that 110 is dead and let you check it yourself. No. I've made sure Tom, since he's an apprentice. I got him a lockout tagout kit and I told him you always keep that with you and always check. Don't ever have anybody, "Yeah. Yeah!" Because that's your life, not theirs. There's no reason to do it live. Hell no. So now, would you call that the worst splicing story? That was actually sad. Because someone did something stupid like that and they could have killed themself. Yes, agreed. Is that up there with the worst story in the world? Yeah, it's pretty, pretty bad. There's another bad one when I was living in Rhinebeck. I just drove up the driveway. I got a call from Advanced Testing. He said there was a blow up down SUNY Purchase. "Babe, I just drove home an 1-1/2." He said, "Don, we need you. SUNY they're closed and they they don't have any power". Alright, so I go down here. I found out that the guy took a tester. The Wiggin's. Yep. And he knew he had problems on the secondary. So he checked it on the secondaries. Then went to the primaries and he put the Wiggin's on the primary. Wiggin's are not made for primaries. No, they're only rated for, the average person who's listening, a Wiggin's tester that he's talking about only goes up to 600 volts and the guy's trying to test that on what 13,000? Yup. 21:52 So, he had his. Apparently, he had his... Sorry, I just dropped some grapes. 21:59 Did you eat ‘em? Five second rule? They're in with the other couple thousand grapes that are in there. Okay. I'm doing 6 gallons at a time. 6 or 60? 22:12 I'm halfway through my 42-pound box. How many hours did that take you? Another two days. Oh, you've been doing it for two days now? 22:26 Oh. I'm gonna call it quits for now and have coffee and come out tomorrow morning. Gotcha. Do it all day tomorrow. You get up early and tend to the garden first? The garden's almost finished. Very nice. Is it harvest season for those ginormous squash? Did you see those squash? 36 pounds. Do they weigh 36 pounds? 'cause I put it as a YouTube "short" on my Verbally Disastrous YouTube channel, of course. I was making fun of the squash. So, Tom listened to my short and he was like, "Oh my God! You're you're a rip". I think I pulled 150 lbs. of squash out of that plant. 150 pounds! So, you get a can everything, right? 23:11 Well, I give it away. I don't know. Squash you really can't can I don't think. You can freeze it. I think you can freeze it. I'll have to jump on the train to go get some. I got one sitting here right now that's 30 pounds. Wow. Did I tell you that Johnny's football team, the Carmel Rams, have been kicking *** and taking names this season? 28-0 the first game that I missed. Yeah. Actually, last Saturday against John Jay which is up in Fishkill. They won 40 to 7. In the beginning, John Jay, you know everybody was there talking **** and then towards the end, you see people staggering out like all depressed about how they got a beating. The week before, they were up. It was a home game. New Rochelle came up, New Rochelle is state champs. They were all nervous about ‘em: 28-0. They didn't even let 'em score. I'm happy for him. I'm very happy for him that he's a part of a winning situation. So it's good for a young man's self-esteem. There's a ton of kids on the team. Well yeah. He's a senior right? No. No. He's a junior. 24:24 Yes, because it's their last season. So, he plays more towards the end, so to speak. When the kids are tired. Obviously, when they're on defense. But I'm happy for him that he's experiencing something like that. It's I think it's awesome to see them all like kicking *** on that level. If they go to state, I definitely want to be in on that. Yeah, that would be cool to see that. Have that kind of bragging rights. They don't wear a letter. You know how they used to have Letterman jackets and you'd have your high school letter? I haven't seen anybody wearing one. $600 apiece. Yeah, but I I don't even recall even seeing a kid wearing one to say, "hey, let me go get you a jacket". Oh really? I have to find out about it. Because if he gets a letter for football, then that would be cool to get him to wear it as a keepsake. I just found my letter from White Plains. Did you? Was it for wrestling? Football. 25:26 Oh, you played football. What I was gonna ask you what type of electrical work you enjoy doing. But we've already established you like splicing and you sucked as an electrician. So you never did any low voltage? I remember that time when you were up on the ladder trying to do a smoke head for what was it Nick? You were like, "Leslie, can you help me? My hands are too big". 25:49 Worked on fire alarm and then I went through so much cable because I couldn't splice it out 'cause my hands were too fat. So, you would say fire alarm you hate? I'll pipe the pipe and I'll pull wire. No. You don't want to do terminations. I did a short story on Amazon about our buddy "Lucky" who is our apprentice. You remember that fella right? Supposedly he's still in the business. 26:19 You said you have nine fingers because that bastard? Almost. I know. You want to tell the story about that? Sure. 26:29 He couldn't see, couldn't hear, and couldn't walk. He gave him to me as an apprentice to help me do some terminations in the cabinet. I had this. I'm gonna call it a high press. That's where you put the cables together. You press the connectors together. There's a big hydraulic one and I told Lucky, “Have you ever operated one of these before?" Of course, I had to really explain it to him. He said, "no, I didn't". I said, "when I say okay, hit that button". So, he thought I said "okay" and he hit the button and he almost took my finger. So, I took the button away from. I told to go in the corner and sit in the corner. I wouldn't let him work with me no more. I let him help with testing at that time. You remember our fearless leader? I had to work with him in Mount Vernon and we were piping out with the black Con Ed pipe up to the manhole. Remember we had those what I would describe, if you're in elementary school, when you're putting on those little rubber things on your pencil to keep you from getting calluses on your finger? The coupling was like a rubber, rubberized like clear green and you had to lube it up with Dawn soap. Squirt it all in. Squirt it all in there and then bang it on with a sledgehammer. it was like a whole technique with it. So here I'm messing with it and I'm trying to get the kid to do it. He smacked his ankle and he did it a couple of times. Because one leg was shorter than the other, as you so eloquently described, and he couldn't hear, he had one eye. Yeah, it screws up your depth perception. I think from birth. I 28:01 asked him, "what made you decide to do this so?" "Because the insurance." So, I said, "what good is that if you cause yourself or somebody else to be killed? What good is that?" It's like you're not even built for this business. At all. Whatsoever. He had a compensation case with every contractor he worked for. Yeah, 'cause by the time he was working with us, he was a fourth-year apprentice and he had four compensation cases. Which I didn't think was possible. Because you open one and you can't open up another one for three years. I think it's three. It's like a three-year timeframe. So, he must have had four accident reports and maybe a compensation case covering shit at least one. You get 26-weeks for each compensation ticket, so to speak, and it's like every three years. So, what was the guy up on like his second comp case? Did he fall? He was on somebody's job and he fell off the ladder and broke his shoulder. 28:55 Yeah, D's job. He was something else. I felt like you couldn't have him do anything. He was up there one step on the ladder. One step. Not 6 feet. Not 10 feet. One foot. One step on the ladder he fell. He fell off and broke his shoulder. Well, now you're shorter than the other- uh, oh. I'm getting a dead battery. 29:13 Well, you want to call back later? Yeah, can I do that? Yeah, absolutely. This wraps up Part A on the discussion with my longtime pal Donny about his high voltage splicing career in New York. Now, if you enjoyed the content, go back in to the podcast platform of your choice and look for Part B. Thank you, I wish you a great day. Peace out Cub Scout. This wraps up another episode on the Verbally Disastrous podcast that can be found on Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube. Donny's High Voltage Career Stories: Part A and B Podcast Episodes Have Been Released!!

Hello Everyone! Let's make each day an amazing day! I sure hope you are having a fabulous day today on your side of the globe!? In order to make it amazing, we must put our minds to it being so, right? Is it getting colder on your side of the globe this month? I have always liked the month of October as well as the Halloween themed month. I have been working on a variety of things so I have not been writing as much. I have some journals, sketchbooks, planners, etc. that are now on Amazon. I plan to review and share a podcast that someone on Twitter shared with me. I had initially mentioned that I would write out a review towards the end of the summer. However, that was put on hold due to other items being a priority. The podcast is entitled, "The Dirty Little Secrets Club" and is hosted by Dayna (That Trophy Wife Life Podcast) and Brimstone (The Grindhouse Radio) and I found it on YouTube. I am going to review their interactions and dirty secrets. I will then ask them some questions for them to respond at their earliest convenience. I am looking forward to listening to their content and writing out my thoughts. I will have to get from them the links to their other podcast platforms as well. I believe they are on Spotify at the very least. It appears to be an up and coming podcast. Now, here is the real purpose of this post. I broke the writing drought to share this post with you all! I finally broke down and did the editing for my discussion with my long-time pal Don Raffa. Yay Leslie!! My buddy Donny, who is like a brother to me, is a retired high voltage splicer out of New York. As a high voltage splicer, Don had a 40-year career traversing many man holes throughout Westchester County, New York. Donny worked on high voltages that ranged on average from 5,000 to 13, 000 volts. These voltages will KILL a person instantly!! They set people on fire and cooks their body from the inside out. Every once in awhile, a person can evade certain death or dismemberment. For anyone not aware, Westchester County is the suburbs that lie directly north of New York City. About mid-way in his career, his name started appearing on the specs of many construction plans throughout Westchester as the required splicer to use for the work. I won't spoil the podcast with any further details. He is a friend that I admire and happy to have in my corner if I have some questions. Be sure to check out the podcast episodes Part A & B and let me know what you think. I thank you for including me in your AM/PM routine when you check out my content today. I am always humored if you are sneaking to read this while at work. Ssshh, your secret is safe with me!! :P Let me know if you find my review interesting? I am sharing my latest, two podcasts that I released for The Verbally Disastrous Podcast via links for Spotify, Amazon Music, & YouTube below. I am also sharing the link to my (7) Kindle Vella short stories on Amazon as well. I finally forced myself to work on editing the podcast with my really good friend who is a retired high voltage splicer. I spent days on this work!! Editing long podcast episodes is not my favorite thing to do! However, I buckled down and got it done. Hopefully, you find these latest podcast episodes to be interesting. Now, make sure to have yourself an enjoyable Wednesday and enjoy what is left of the week. I wish you a great morning/afternoon/evening on your side of the globe and a restful or productive day!
