Advice: What Is "Slap In The Face" Advice?

Photo Credit: The Dave Chappelle Show Hello Everyone! It is turning into a stormy day here in the Big Apple. It was humid earlier in the day and actually a decent day. I have officially stopped wearing my jacket to work. My goal is to no longer wear the jacket until October. How's the day going for you on your side of the globe today? I've had another busy this week both at work and after work. The same reminder goes for my first adult book entitled, "Construction Tales: Volume I: A Woman's Journey To Become An Electrician". I'm sharing with you another sliver of some Quora pie. This advice is about what is "slap in the face" advice? Since this is the end of my day shift, I'm going to go straight into my advice. I had a DOB inspector onsite who ate a big chunk of the day. Let's get straight into it and check out the question and my response down below: POSED QUESTION: "What is “slap in the face” advice?" -By Danny Margulies MY RESPONSE: "Oohhh!! I interpret “slap in the face” advice as a back handed compliment. It's wild how advice can be a double edged sword that offers both advice and a stinging insult simultaneously. One example would be when a person offers unsolicited weight loss advice. Here is a classic example: “you're face is beautiful” or “you would be even more stunning if you lost more weight”. On one hand, the person is offering a compliment. On the other hand, the person is also critical of the person's body. The criticizing person is eluding that the person would look more beautiful if they put more effort in and lost some weight. For the person who has struggled with their weight for a lifetime for a variety of reasons, the last thing they want would be some slap in the face advice. The person offering the advice may very well think that they are doing a great thing. To some folks, informing a person of a deficiency is just merely sharing an observation. On the opposite end of the spectrum, this slice of advice is perceived as extremely cruel and highly unnecessary to offer. Prior to offering this type of advice, you must ask yourself as to exactly what is being accomplished? Is the goal to be informational? Will this unsolicited advice alter the course of a situation for the better? Will this advice prevent harm to another person or enrich a person’s life? One has to consider the goal before allowing that advice to pass your lips. We have to tread water lightly when offering advice. If you are offering some advice that is considered gossip or causes drama, you sure as hell better have a very clean house. You will look like a hypocrite if you are not practicing what you preach. Oftentimes, whatever credibility you had previously goes to zero because your words are not aligning with your actions. One must consider the possibility of self-sabotage after spilling the beans. Just know that when you freely offer unsolicited advice, just know that equally harsh face slapping advice can come your way. Just look for the value of the delivery before putting words out there that cannot be returned once spoken.
