Advice: Line Between Want Vs Need & What Is A Slow Person?
Hello Everyone!
I sincerely hope you are doing well now that we are just past hump day (whispered in the Geico camel's voice)? I'm looking forward to the upcoming holiday weekend. I have a new car that I get to take for a spin somewhere fun. What are your weekend plans my friend? I haven't locked in what I'm doing but I'm going to do something, damn it! Here's another reminder for you that my first children's book "Not All Girls Play With Dolls" is available in e-book, paperback, and hardcover on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes. I found out that this book is on Book Goodies website. Check out the link and photo above to check out their website. The same reminder goes for my first adult book entitled, "Construction Tales: Volume I: A Woman's Journey To Become An Electrician". Your favorite New York electrician chick is issuing more Quora advice for you to chew on and digest. This first piece of my mind is on the topic of interpreting the phrase, “there is a fine line between what we want and what we need and it’s getting the best of me”. I went ahead and took a stab at the meaning of this phrase. In a nutshell, it sounds like the person is caving into temptation. In a world with everything at your fingertips, courtesy of the internet, it is hard to hold back on things that you don't need. The many people who post what they have on social media makes their peers review what they "could" have if they just went for it. For the second round of advice, the topic is on calling a person "slow". This is another question where I'm assuming that English is not the person's primary language. If that's the case, I sure hope I fully explained the term. The goal is to upturn every rock and look at the different ways to approach how the word is used. This is the part where you go ahead and your thoughts on my chosen topics by dropping your glorious input in the comment section down below. Check out the question(s) and my response(s) down below:
POSED QUESTION #1:
"What does “there is a fine line between what we want and what we need and it’s getting the best of me” mean?" -By Michael Robinson Jr
MY RESPONSE #1:
"There is indeed a fine line between what we need versus what we want. We need food and shelter yet we want that expensive porterhouse steak meal at that fancy steakhouse in town. If that fine line is getting the best of me, then I’m no longer considering my expensive want thoughts as to being just want thoughts. I’m considering that I actually need my wants and I’m going to give in to that desire. It’s hard to deny your wants when it feels like it would be “harmless” in nature. If there is no harm, then it is no problem to just satisfy your wants right? This is how that fine line gets blurry with a lack of impulse control. We can justify in our heads that satisfying a want is no big deal. It becomes a big deal when you are short on your rent within the next month. I hope I have fully explained my interpretation of the phrase? May you have much luck on your journey in life! #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls" -By Leslie M. Jasper

POSED QUESTION #2:
"When someone calls another person “slow”, what does he/she mean?" -By Crystal Tolentino
MY RESPONSE #2:
"They are trying to say that a person’s behavior is not of the same speed as the others around him/her. This speed is actually slower than their peers. A person can be extremely cautious about their approach in life. Being cautious is not necessarily an indication of a person’s intelligence. We are not all gifted with the same brain bandwidth and that is okay. Others choose to call people slow when they are not perceived to be of average intelligence. A person can very well be high on drugs and acting slow in nature. Drugs work well to slow down a person’s response time. Being slow is not necessarily a bad thing. A slow person may show up for life more than others and actually take time to sniff the flowers around them. A slow person’s life may be enriched from the ability to take their time and being able to experience things that others buzz right past. Good luck on you life path! #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls" -By Leslie M. Jasper

I recently shared my latest short story that has been loaded up to my Construction Tales-Told By A Woman Kindle Vella Library on Amazon. This is short story #11 entitled, "Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools". This short story covers my life as a widowed, single mother in the era when I juggled both motherhood and my career as a journeywoman electrician. I share the various challenges I faced and lessons learned along the way. The previous short story is entitled: #10: "Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice". I decided to write about some life lessons such as guarding your personal information, managing nasty rumors, combating sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism. Overall, the construction culture has improved dramatically over the past 25-years. Developing both a thick skin and a sharp tongue are key tools needed to survive various jobsite antics. I hope you learn something from this short story. There are more to come. These short stories are now also available as Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes.
